With an Agent’s Representative qualification, you can work as a real estate salesperson, buyer advocate or a property manager under a licensed real estate agent.

This short course is comprised of three units of competency, successful completion of which will contribute to further studies for the full Real Estate Agent course.

With a focus on practical training skills, our program covers:

Work in the real estate industry:  This subject will introduce you to the knowledge and skills you require to work ethically and effectively in the real estate industry, applying knowledge of ethical conduct and standards, core functions of real estate agency operations, the legislative framework within which the industry operates and industry employment requirements.

Identify legal and ethical requirements of property sales to complete agency work: Gain the knowledge and skills you’ll need to meet the core legal and ethical requirements associated with property sales in Victoria. This includes applying knowledge of legislation related to property sales, the role and responsibility of agency personnel in property sales, administration of sales transactions and the completion of sales documentation.

Identify legal and ethical requirements of property management to complete agency work: This unit provides you with the knowledge and skills needed to meet the core legal and ethical requirements associated with property management. This includes applying knowledge of legislation dealing with the leasing and management of property, the role and responsibility of agency personnel in property management, the recording of property management transactions, completion of property management documentation, handling moneys and maintaining a key register.

Through a combination of classroom-based, instructor-led learning, practical and written assessments, you will complete training for these 3 required units of competency. This is the nationally recognised course that is essential for those who want to become registered Agent’s Representatives in Victoria.

Facilitated Workshops:
Our courses start every month and are offered over 2 full days.  Applied learning and assessment tasks are completed in class, while some written tasks are completed by you after the workshops. Extra support is provided by your facilitator by email and telephone support when required.

Fees and Funding

Victorian residents may be eligible for generous Commonwealth and Victorian Government Funding (VTG) – see our Fees and Funding page for more information.  VTG funding is also available for fully online or distance learning undertaken within Victoria by eligible individuals.

Assessment tasks

Assessment tasks are practical and, where possible, oriented to your work context for relevance. They consist of a variety of tasks requiring the ability to research, analyse and present your responses in written and verbal formats, including class presentations, reports and practical demonstrations.  Feedback on completion of tasks is given as you progress through the course.

This approach enables you to complete this course efficiently and effectively.  If you are already working in a real estate agency, you may find that you complete the assessment tasks even more quickly.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements, however to gain maximum benefit, you will need to be able to speak, read and write fluently in English, as well as have basic computer and internet skills and access.

*Conditions regarding employment as an agents’ representative in Victoria

There is a requirement for eligibility for employment in the real estate industry that all applicants should be aware of prior to enrolment. To be registered with the Business Licensing Authority (BLA) in Victoria, graduates of this course must provide a satisfactory Police Records Check. A person cannot be employed as an Agent’s Representative if he or she: is under 18 years of age; is an insolvent under administration; has been the cause of a claim against the Estate Agents’ Guarantee Fund; or has, within the last 10 years, been convicted or had proven against him or her an offence involving fraud, dishonesty, violence or drug trafficking, which is punishable by imprisonment of three months or more. Please consider this information carefully before enrolling to ensure you will be eligible to apply for your registration post certification, as Phillips Institute are not liable should your application by the BLA be refused.  More information can be found at Consumer Affairs Victoria about this requirement.

On completion of this course, you can take your career further with the CPP40307 Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate).
