Through a combination of classroom-based, instructor-led learning, practical and written assessments, you will complete the 10 units of competency required to achieve the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. This is the nationally recognised qualification that is essential to deliver and assess accredited qualifications in Australia.^

You will acquire the skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality, group-based learning sessions through the combination of facilitated workshops and student peer interaction. The classroom environment is a valuable and powerful component of your learning experience with this delivery option. Applied learning and assessment tasks are completed in class, while theory can be completed by you between classes, providing ample opportunity for you to absorb and apply your learning. These workshops are supplemented by email and telephone support when required. And if we hear of any training work that would suit you, we’ll pass on the tip! Our courses start every second month and classes are offered as weekly evening classes over 16 weeks with up to 20 weeks of post-workshop support.

While the duration for this course is 9 months, some individuals may be able to complete course requirements in a shorter timeframe with demonstration of relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
Fees and Funding
This course is available as Fee For Service only.
Assessment tasks are practical and, where possible, oriented to your work context for relevance. They consist of a variety of tasks requiring the ability to research, analyse and present your responses in written and verbal formats, including class presentations, reports and practical demonstrations. Feedback on completion of tasks is given as you progress through the course.
This approach enables you to complete this course efficiently and effectively. If you are already working in a training and assessment role, you may find that you complete the assessment tasks even more quickly, potentially completing all course requirements by the final workshop. We will allow you up to three months post program to submit your final assessments, with further extensions possible on application and if required. We support you every step of the way!
As this course is a key qualification in Australia’s VET system, it has specific conditions that may affect your ability to benefit from undertaking this training. The following information should be considered carefully before you decide to enrol.
General Entry Requirements
To gain maximum benefit from this course, you will need to be able to speak, read and write fluently in English, as well as have basic computer and internet skills and reliable access to equipment. Please note you may also need to undertake some assessment of your current language, literacy and numeracy skills in order for us to determine your capacity to complete this course and whether you may benefit from further foundation skills support.
Vocational Competency Requirements
In planning to become a qualified trainer and assessor with this course, it is highly recommended that you have an existing vocational competency. This becomes the area in which you will deliver training and assess others.
Many people choose to become a trainer in order to pass on their knowledge and skills to others. Typically participants of this course will have extensive experience in their own industry or profession, often combined with an appropriate qualification.
It is important to note that organisations who employ qualified trainers will expect you to have this TAE qualification together with vocational competency in order to satisfy RTO registration and trainer/assessor employment requirements. Phillips Institute staff will check that you are able to meet this condition prior to finalising your enrolment. Call us and speak with the program manager if you are unsure about this requirement.
On completion of this qualification, you can take your training career further with the Phillips Institute program TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or the TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development, or higher education courses in vocational education and training, learning and development.
